Basmati rice is a perfumed rice that is very appreciated. Indispensable in Indian cuisine, basmati rice has a texture and a light and dry flavour. "Basmati" means "queen of fragrance" in Hindi. It is very aromatic. We put it in water to start with, then we cook it in less liquid at low heat. In northern India.
Makes about 47 ounces of basmati rice
1-2/3 cups of water
Wash the rice very well under fresh water until the rice has lost all of it's starch to prevent stickiness because starches are produced in the rice milling process.
Boil the rice in water and let cover for 5 minutes.
Reduce the heat and continue cooking for about 15 minutes until the rice has absorbed all the water.
Stir with a fork to loosen the rice and make more fluffy.
It is a good idea to cook the rice using a steamer if you have one.
We hope you enjoy this basmati rice recipe!
